Celebrating Adoption!
By on December 9th, 2010

We are so excited to celebrate the adoption of Joshua Kelly.  Jason and Kara Kelly were two of our first OJC volunteers and were in the first group who took our foster care training.

We are so blessed to see them with their new son.

The KellysThe following are a few excerpts from Kara’s Journal….we are so thankful and excited for a glimpse into this special moment!

November 12, 2010 – Joshua Kelly’s “Gotcha Day”

“Today we celebrate the finalization of Joshua’s adoption and the day he has become legally forever our bobo! It’s officially official. Many families celebrate not only their adopted child’s birthday each year but also their “gotcha day”… or their adoption day. So, today is our Gotcha Day with Joshua.  Joshua, may this day each year remind you that forever and ever, we’ll love you no matter what. We’re so glad we’ve got you and you’ve got us- you are such a gift to our family!”

A Letter to Joshua

Dear Joshua,

I can’t believe you’ve been in our world for two whole months now. At the same time, I can hardly remember what it was like before you came to us. You are a joy.

Just today I was trying to think of something I’d rather be doing than spending my days taking care of you and I couldn’t come up with a single thing.

It may be mundane at times and I don’t get as much sleep as I used to, but that little smile of yours or when you look right into my eyes makes it all worth it.

This past weekend we had a dedication service at church and we officially dedicated you to the Lord. In itself, the ceremony wasn’t a big deal. It was 10 minutes at the end of a service. But in our hearts, it IS a big deal.

More than anything we want you to know how much your Father loves you.

We want you to know Jesus personally and have a deep relationship with Him. We hope we can be good examples to you of what it means to live in relationship with the almighty creator of the universe. We want you to know the freedom found in grace, the joy found in pursuing righteousness and the power to walk in love.

On Sunday we vowed to teach you the ways of the Lord, to lead by example, to love each other well for your sake as well as ours and to remember that we are merely entrusted with you, but that you belong to God. We need the Holy Spirit’s help, but we hope to encourage you to live with a heart fully alive in the gifts and personality God gives you.

I love you bunches and bunches,

Joshua Kelly

Things I have noticed about the perks of being a baby…

When you’re a baby…

  1. you can take 5 naps a day
  2. it’s not disturbing if you barf after every meal
  3. it’s okay to scream when you’re hungry
  4. you don’t look ridiculous in onesie pajamas
  5. you don’t have to worry about what to wear (or how to put it on)
  6. a ceiling fan can be riveting entertainment
  7. car rides put you to sleep
  8. everyone wants to hug you
  9. your weight is not a taboo subject
  10. it’s all about you
