We have been alerted with the crisis of an estimated 500,000 children currently being trafficked in Brazil. This number is expected to double during the World Cup, as visitors pour into the country for the largest sporting event in the world. Each one of these exploited minors are sons and daughters, children stripped of their innocence and used to fulfill the fantasies of men. The time is perfect to respond.
Under the leadership of Safe Family’s Director, Danny Lima, OJC is teaming up with Exodus Cry’s Liberdade Initiative, “mobilizing a 24/7 prayer room within the red-light areas in each of the 12 host cities [in Brazil] that will pray for 31 days, the entirety of the World Cup, for the ending of sex trafficking and spiritual awakening in the nation. Out of this 24/7 prayer reality, intervention teams will be sent into the red-light areas to reach out to those being exploited.” (http://exoduscry.com/liberdade/)
We have a very clear three step response during times of crisis.
- Gather the Praying Church. From mid-June to mid-July, 2014 we will lead in six hour shifts for the duration of the World Cup. Jesus is the answer to the crisis and He releases justice as we pray.
- Focus on Malachi 4:5-6. We will bring children from local orphanages, Safe Houses and the streets and welcome them in to the house of prayer. God’s plan for national restoration is to “turn the hearts of the father’s to the children and children to the fathers.”
- Equip and Mobilize the Church with long-term, sustainable structures to practically reach out and care for the exploited and children on the streets: Safe Families and Adoption. The government and social services are seeing the issue of trafficking and seeking solutions, even from the programs we’re using in Kansas City to care for children in crisis.
Our goal is that Jesus would be seen as beautiful in Brazil! Through prayer, love and a practical response to meet these children’s needs by putting them in a family, we can introduce sons and daughters to their Father, the King.
